Did not buy on amazon but have a 12k badlands came on my jeep when I bought it. Looks to be a year or two old but the winch failed the first time I used it pulling maybe 1000lbs for less than 1 minute.
Worked sporadically for 15 seconds then quit altogether.
Judging by the symptoms the electric motor has failed.
2/10 stars will not be buying another badlands as a replacement. There are MUCH better winches out there in the sub 400$ price range.

I’ve had this winch for 3 years. I bought it at Harbor Freight. It’s attached to a 2 axle car carrier that I use to haul logs. I’ve pulled some 8000 lb trees (trailer max) with little effort. I think the key is to pay attention to the duty cycle and avoid snatching loads. If it had a longer duty cycle I’d give it 5 stars.

Have them for both my offroad rigs. Our fire truck- deuce and a half tanker got buried on scene so I hooked it up and it slid my rig to the curb til I got some traction and it pulled our deuce and a half out and she was buried to the axles.. yeah we unloaded the water but its a buried tanker truck. Its a good winch and never had a problem with them.

Unit is great. Make sure to replace the mounting bolts with stronger bolts. Did have two of them strip out of the threads during a pull

Didn’t purchase from amazon, but I’ve had mine for 4-5 years. Probably used it more than 10-15 times for pulling others out as well as myself. I’ve pulled out several f350s, a Chevy 5500 water truck, cars jeeps you name it. Never has it let me down. It drains batteries, but what winch doesn’t. Using a snatch block helps with the batteries, or in my case upgraded alternator and a snatch block and you could pull a mountain. Best damn winch I’ve seen for the money.

I ordered this in November 2021 for a Christmas gift. He opened last week to use and not even same product. Ours does not have bad land written anywhere on it. I gave $500 for a $250 winch and they won’t reply.

i haven’t tested yet, but I just bought this winch at Harbor Freight tools for 299 USD!! you cant beat that! go on google and type “harbor freight discount 20 ” you will get a link to several coupons, search for the one on the winch!
I’ve read a lot of reviews on this winch, and basically i found the following:
– All of the reviewers say its a great deal, it works perfectly, it wont fail you.
– Its very slow (You shouldn’t care unless you are in a competition).
– Best benefit/cost ratio!
It cant be that bad, most of the GOOD companies manufacture their winches in China, whats the difference? at the very end of the line the Chinese stamps a different decal and that’s it!
Buy it with the extended guarantee and you can return it for any reason (even if you are in a car accident, which is the most probably reason you will have) in 2 years!

I don’t see why people are saying that its a bad winch. I have had mine for 2 years used it a million times. If you know how to use a winch then it would work properly.
