Garmin has always been a great brand for me. Great value for the money and works as it’s supposed to. I just need to go online and learn more about the readings/fish finding and how to interpret the results on the screen.

This will change your game if you’re on a kayak, like me. So, I’m going to use this moment of your attention to not just promote this device, but also the battery I’m using to run it.
I only use kayaks, so bringing a massive trolling motor, and particularly, battery is a no go. Real estate on a kayak is expensive, and sticking all that mass just isn’t happening.
The instructions for every fishfinder I’ve found always states wiring it up to your battery. Not happening. But this finder requires a low enough starting amperage to make it possible with a cheap handheld battery. I use this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/TalentCell-Rechargeable-12000mAh-Multi-led-indicator/dp/B00ME3ZH7C
    along with this:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J1WZENK
to hook it all together. At about 4 hours on a lake and only a quarter of the batteries charge was used. You should probably find a waterproof battery or waterproof it yourself, but the one I linked at least provides the specks you should look for.

Anyways, this thing is awesome, it’s portable – it’s what you want if you have the ability to just “get up and go.” Sure, the big $500 are probably better, if you’re taking a massive boat out and whatnot, but if that’s not you, this is the Finder you need.

I rigged it up for ice fishing by ONLY using the following..
    – Humminbird ICE Flasher Soft case(found on here for about $35)
    – Tortilla warmer as the base (walmart for about $10)
    – Rapala Folding Camera Panner (at Cabelas for about $20)
    – 12v small AGM battery (on here for about $15)

Put the tortilla warmer upside down and screw in the base plate to it. This provides not just a stable base for the fish finder but also insulates everything off the ground and it fit’s perfect in the soft case.
I velcro’ed the 12v battery to the tortilla warmer behind the fish finder. That kept it secure enough for it not to move around yet easily replaced. The camera panner kept my transducer line from sinking past a point I set depending on the depth of the ice…

and NO, I did NOT use an ice fishing transducer. I used the SAME “boat” transducer that came in this package and it worked great!! Just drop it down the ice hole and let the camera panner keep it at the depth you want and fish away!!

Keep in mind that Garmin’s ice fishing kit for this is over $300!!
